A Grain-Enhancement is generally done on an instrument with a figured top.
By 1st dying the top with a darker color, and then coming back with multiple stages of sanding & dying the top with a lighter color.
This method can enhance the grain & figure of a figured top greatly.

This type of finish is what is also referred to as Relic'd.
This process gives the guitar an aged look, with wear, chips, dings & scratches in all the areas a guitar with alot of years of playing under its belt would have.
