He started as a painter's helper in his family's business in Greenville, South Carolina before leaving for college.
Rodger moved away from home to study interior design at Winthrop University and then began his own business.
He worked in commercial and residential painting, home restoration, and wallpaper installation throughout South Carolina and along the east coast.
Rodger's career began in the mid-1970s.
